FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, PA- Sgt. John A. Griscavage serves as a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear specialist in the 3622nd Support Maintenance Company, 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group.

As a civilian, Griscavage works full time as a safety and security manager at Perdue Farms near his home in Millsboro, Delaware, overseeing the safety of approximately 1,600 employees.

Griscavage worked as an operations manager for a logistics company for 14 years before switching to a career in safety. At this time he also decided to join the National Guard and go back to school to earn a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and environmental health.

“I was able to get my job at Perdue because of my qualifications through the Guard, I was also able to afford to go back to school because of the Guard,” said Griscavage.

Griscavage has been in the Pennsylvania National Guard for six years. He said he enjoys his job because of the people he works with, and because he is able to incorporate his unique safety skills in both his job in the National Guard and his civilian job.

“I don’t think that I could do one job without the other,’’ said Griscavage.

Gricavage takes pride in the fact that his work allows his soldiers to train safely, and to be prepared if there is ever an emergency.
