AVALON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Australia (Mar. 6, 2017)-A group of 21 Sailors from the Patrol Squadron Ten (VP-10) “Red Lancers” flew to Avalon International Airport to participate in the bi-annual Avalon Airshow Mar. 2-5.
The Avalon Airshow is one of the largest airshows in the southern hemisphere. This year, it featured jet fighters, historic aircraft, military technologies and acrobatic demonstrations. The Red Lancers brought the P-8A “Poseidon” as a static display to showcase technological advances over its predecessor, the P-3C “Orion,” previously employed by both the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the U.S. Navy.
The Red Lancers spent three days welcoming military personnel and civilians on board and describing P-8A capabilities to air show attendees. The RAAF also brought a P-8A static display, allowing the Red Lancers to interact with the RAAF P-8A crew and swap stories.
“There was a lot of interest in the P-8A static display,” said Lt. Rory O’Donnell, a Patrol Plane Commander for VP-10. “The airshow participants and attendees were wildly impressed by the combination of the Royal Australian Air Force and U.S. Navy P-8As.”
The Red Lancers are based out of Jacksonville, Florida, and are currently on a routine deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and providing maritime domain awareness to supported units throughout the Pacific theater.
