SAN DIEGO – Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) San Diego wrapped up the pilot for the Electronic Warfare (EW) Applications (Advanced) Course, March 31.
The latest pilot course, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training’s (CIWT) EW training modernization effort, provides senior cryptologic technician (technical) (CTT) Sailors with the operational skills to manage, plan, integrate and communicate EW resources.
“EW is continually at the tip of the spear, controlling and managing the EW spectrum,” said Chief Cryptologic Technician (Technical) Christopher Love, chief instructor. “That requires constant monitoring and modification. It’s great to see the level of effort being put into updating and modernizing our EW curricula.”
Since last fall, CIWT has updated four other EW courses, including EW Threat Recognition, EW Officer Surface, Fleet National Systems Support and Surface EW Operations-Journeyman. Three additional fleet course revisions are scheduled for this year.
"Resetting the training standards in our schoolhouse will create a ripple effect throughout the fleet,” said Master Chief Cryptologic Technician (Technical) Phil Gable, CIWT’s CTT rating lead. “The revised courses are far more challenging and in-depth than previous versions, and our goal is that the Sailors we train will take the knowledge they gained here and improve upon divisional training aboard their ships. We hope to see our efforts lead to improvement in overall fleet training and readiness.”
Students in the EW Applications (Advanced) Course further develop their skills in the areas of command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C5ISR); shipboard administration; identification of EW threat systems; tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP); and EW functional briefs at the shipboard level.
“It’s our job to stay ahead of the threat, and with this updated material, we will continue to do so,” said Cryptologic Technician (Technical) 1st Class Bryce Martin, a student in the pilot course.
IWTC San Diego, as part of the CIWT organization, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel, preparing them to conduct Information Warfare (IW) across the full spectrum of military operations.
