“Having worked with Scott for over two years now, I know he will uphold the integrity of the command and uphold the integrity of our regulations and do right by our Soldiers - and that is the most important thing,” said Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal.
Shore says he takes his new role as the eyes, ears and conscience of the command very seriously.
“I just want to make sure everyone knows that the IG office is here to support the Soldiers and leaders equally,” said Shore. “So basically this is a resource for leaders and an avenue to help solve Soldiers’ problems … if everyone understands that then they have no reason to be afraid of the IG office.”
Vandal reinforced the sentiment during the oath ceremony.
“It keeps commanders honest,” said Vandal. “Because without the IG, in some cases, you can find that you can have some commanders at any level that may go off the straight and narrow.”
Anyone wanting to use the IG office is protected by regulations set in place to make sure everyone is treated fairly.
“People can come to IG without worry of reprisal; the IG office takes confidentiality very seriously,” said Shore. “We work very hard to solve issues that may not be able to be solved by the chain of command.”
