U.S., allies, partner nations finish up exercise INIOHOS 17

ANDRAVIDA AIR BASE, Greece – U.S. Air Force Airmen, NATO Allies and partner nations participated in exercise INIOHOS 17, March 27th through April 6, here.

The U.S. and Greece, as NATO Allies, share a commitment to promote peace and stability, and seek opportunities to continue developing their relationship.

The 482nd FW, many of whom are Reservists, sharpened skills required to provide critical support throughout the USAFE-AFAFRICA area of operation by deploying and interacting with a variety of nations.

“This exercise has given us the chance to strengthen our camaraderie with other  [NATO] countries [like Italy, Israel, Greece], our allies,” said Senior Airman Nakita Jaramillo, an aerospace propulsion journeyman from the 367th Fighter Squadron. “It allowed us the opportunity to build a greater partnership between us and other nations; a better partnership.”

The value of having U.S. Forces in Europe is that we can move forward quickly to support and defend our Allies.

Other Airmen, such as Italian Air Force personnel participating in the exercise also experienced what the resourcefulness of having a relationship with allies mean.

Maj. Borettaz Luca, a maintenance officer from the 51st Wing at Istrana Air Base, Italy, said it’s always productive to work in an international training environment.

“We were able to learn some of the similarities and differences of our jobs here,” said Luca. “It is like being able to get a point-of-view outside of the game, and when we go back to it, its ‘I remember how the U.S. [Air Force] did that, we could try it that way next time’.”

This annual multinational exercise enhances the interoperability capabilities and skills amongst Allied air forces in the accomplishment of joint operations and air defenses to maintain joint readiness and reassure our regional allies.

During the multinational, large force exercise, the F-16C Fighting Falcons conducted more than 200 sorties, which included: joint operations and air defense training mission, air-to-ground strike missions, close air support and maritime interdiction.
