JACKSON, Miss. -- Chattie N. Levy was promoted to the rank of colonel in the Mississippi Medical Detachment, Mississippi Army National Guard during a promotion ceremony April 9, 2017 at the Raymond Road Armory.
Levy, a Jackson native, wanted to be a nurse since the age of 13. She now has 24 years of service as a nurse in the National Guard.
“I always had a passion to help people,” said Levy. "I went through my studies to become a nurse.”
After the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Levy was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Nurse Corps in 1993. She holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. As a civilian she works at the Department of Veterans Affairs as an outpatient mental health nurse with 27 years experience, and in her current military position as deputy commander of clinical services she ensures Soldiers are healthy for deployments.
Col. Neal C. Lehan, the unit commander, said that Levy has greatly contributed to the unit during their time working together.
“I met her as a lieutenant and watched her mature and grow as an officer,” said Lehan. “She cares about the development of the Soldiers and wants the best of every Soldier.”
Levy said that being promoted to colonel is exceeding her personal goals for her military career and considers the promotion a blessing. It lets her stay in her current unit where she will continue to mentor and lead Soldiers.
