Fifty Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division employees, Sailors and Marines joined members of the Royal Australian Air Force in commemorating Anzac Day in Point Mugu, California, on April 25.
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance recognized in Australia and New Zealand that honors their countrymen and women who have fought and fallen in times of war, conflict, or peacekeeping operations, not unlike how Memorial Day is celebrated in the United States.
The date, April 25, is significant in that it marks the anniversary of a World War I allied assault on Gallipoli in 1915. The planned strike became an eight-month campaign during which more than 11,000 Australians and New Zealanders perished.
