Airmen from various units across Malmstrom came together to participate in a base wide sports day, April 21.

The day’s events started at 7:00 a.m., with a relay race at the fitness center where teams took turns running laps and passing a baton.

The teams then headed to the basketball courts for a volleyball tournament followed by bowling, basketball, dodgeball and cornhole. Hamburgers were grilled at Sun Plaza Park for Airmen to eat during lunch.

Staff Sgt. Monique Hulse, 341st Force Support Squadron fitness specialist, said sports day is an annual event that the 341st FSS is trying to bring back to the base.

“Sports day is a fun day for units to participate in and we (hope) to continue it for years to come,” Hulse said. “Sometimes life can be fast paced so it’s nice to sit back, enjoy the weather and enhance morale.”

Each participating team was awarded points according to how they placed in the events. At the end of the day, a trophy was awarded to the unit with the most points.

The 341st FSS earned first place and the trophy will stay in their possession until the next sports day.

Senior Master Sgt. Daniel Doble, 341st Comptroller Squadron and Wing Staff Agency superintendent, said he encouraged Airmen to participate and enjoy the day.

“We had a great time and I’m glad we got together and away from the office,” Doble said. “I think events like this build camaraderie for the base and helps us come together to become a more cohesive team.”

Airman Xavier Wajid, 341st FSS services apprentice, participated in track, volleyball, basketball and dodgeball events during sports day.

“I had fun with the competition,” Wajid said. “It was nice to get away from the daily work duties and have some fun with a morale booster. If (sports day is hosted) next year, I will definitely be doing it again.”
