Members of team Ellsworth gathered in the Pride Hangar to take part in a semi-annual Wingman Day, April 28, 2017.
The events included activities that focused on improving Airmen physically and socially – two pillars that make up Comprehensive Airmen Fitness.
“Wingman Day is a day where we focus on resilience and give Airmen and their families’ time to recharge, get out and explore, either the physical, social, mental, or spiritual domains of Comprehensive Airmen Fitness,” said Dennis Wier, the Ellsworth Community Support Coordinator. “Pretty much every event we had focused on both the physical and social domains.”
Nearly 2,300 Airmen participated in bowling, golfing, paintball, a rock climbing wall, bubble soccer, volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, or a hike through the Badlands National Park. These events strengthened relationships while allowing an opportunity to make connections outside of Airmen’s work centers.
“These Wingman Days contribute to the mission,” Wier said. “It gives us a chance during a duty day to step back from our day-to-day jobs and look at ourselves.”
Col. Gentry Boswell, the commander of the 28th Bomb Wing, and Chief Master Sgt. Adam Vizi, the command chief of the 28th Bomb Wing, addressed the multitude of Airmen standing inside the Pride Hangar Friday morning, reminding them that in order to remain vigilant and prepared to provide combat airpower anytime, anywhere, they need to keep themselves in check.
“You need to take care of yourself and take care of each other,” Boswell said. “That’s number one when it comes to taking care of the mission.”
The next Wingman Day is scheduled for August 25, 2017, and will comprise of events focusing on the mental and spiritual pillars of Comprehensive Airmen Fitness.
