KABUL, Afghanistan (April 12, 2017) — KABUL, Afghanistan (April 12, 2017) — Leadership from the Afghan National Army toured the warehouses of Afghan Union Transportation and Logistics here last week, alongside an advisory team from Resolute Support.
The team assessed the status of ongoing supply distribution and identified train, advise and assist opportunities to assure all corps soldiers are properly equipped.
“I see a great transformation since our last visit and a great improvement in the distribution of supplies at the AUTL level. The key to success is not having mountains of equipment here but to deliver them to the troops,” expressed Major General Richard Kaiser, Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan commanding general.
To ensure correct distributions based on needs, the corps submits supply requests to the Ministry of Defense acquisition office. They work together with CSTC-A’s security assistance office to get the materials coming from all parts of the world delivered to the AUTL.
“Once the supplies arrive, they are entered in the inventory and reporting management system - known as the Core-Inventory Management System,” explained Colonel Sameullah Pasouh, ANA liaison officer. “Here, we can report on what we have in less than an hour, including a year ahead supplies. The Corps need to know what items we have available for them and the only way is by relying in the Core-IMS system.”
After entering the data in the system, the personnel conducts a joint inventory with liaisons from the ANA and Afghan National Police. Once they agree on quantity, they sign the transfer agreement.
The next level down of the supply chain includes the delivery of equipment to the Central Depot Supply for the ANA, and to the National Logistics Company Wardak for the ANP. The supplies are then transported to the Corps.
The coordination between all key players is crucial. Accountability and transparency needs to be aligned across all entities, Kaiser highlighted.
“I have a son in the Army and every time I go to bed I ask myself, does he have what he needs to do his job? We want to make sure all soldiers have what they need. That is why we are here.”
