CORAOPOLIS, Pennsylvania – A Command for one of the Army Reserve’s cyber units, recently changed hands here during an official change of command ceremony April 1.
During the ceremony Lt. Col. Brad A. Clawson, incoming commander of the North Central Cyber Protection Center (NCCPC), Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group (ARCOG), 335th Signal Command (Theater) accepted command from outgoing commander Lt. Col. Russell W. Griffin.
The ARCOG is a newly reflagged brigade-sized cyber unit and was created from the Army Reserve Information Operations Command (ARIOC) in October of 2016. Cyber protection centers under the ARCOG’s command are in the process of building their forces through readiness and advanced cyber security training to perform cyber missions in support of the 335th SC (T) and Army Cyber Command.
“This truly is a special homecoming for me since I’m originally from this area,” said Clawson who was recently deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, as the chief engineer for the 335th SC (T) Provisional detachment. “I’m coming back to the cyber community during a dynamic time. A lot has changed in the past year as we progress forward to become an initial operating capable unit.”
Clawson credited Griffin and the command for working together to get the NCCPC ready for the next level of transition, and thanked him for his support during the leadership change.
Griffin will be heading to Fort Meade, Maryland, to join the U.S. Cyber Command, as the persistent cyber training environment director.
