    130th Airlift Wing

William Persinger, 130th Airlift Wing deputy Mission Support Group commander, achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during a formal promotion ceremony held May 6, 2017 at McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, Charleston, West Virginia.

Col. Michael Cadle presided over the ceremony and offered words of praise for Persinger.

“I couldn’t have anyone that cared more about the job and worked hard at it and worked to perfect it, to make Mission Support Group the best group on the base,” said Cadle. “I want to thank him for all he’s done up to this point and there’s a lot more to come.”

Persinger began his career in the United States Coast Guard reserve in 2000 and received his commission through the USCG officer indoctrination school in 2002. For seven years, Persinger served in the Coast Guard, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, prior to resigning his commission to join the Air National Guard in order to serve alongside his son.

“When my son Wes joined the West Virginia Air National Guard, I felt I would enjoy serving with him in the same organization as well as serving my state of which I love,” he said.”

At the time, there were no officer positions available at the 130th Airlift Wing, so Persinger enlisted at the rank of E-5 to join the unit. He would later go on to be reinstated as an O-3 and serve in the Force Support Squadron. Since then, he has worked throughout MSG and FSS as a personnel officer and sustainment officer in charge (OIC) prior to becoming deputy commander.

“I am probably the only individual that you have met that has been both an E-5 and O-3 twice,” Persinger said laughingly. “That doesn’t happen often. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here with the unit and look forward to many more, serving the WVANG as a Lieutenant Colonel.”

As deputy MSG commander, Lt. Col. Persinger oversees the 130th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Security Forces Squadron, Force Support Squadron, and Civil Engineer Squadron consisting of more than 500 Airmen.
