Soldiers with the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) donate new clothes to Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) a rape crisis center that advocates and supports rape victims on 27 April, 2017, in Pittsburgh Pa.
Following the commission of a sexual assault crime a PAAR in-person aid advocate meets victims in area emergency rooms to obtain information and lend support through providing a clean pair of clothes.
DNA evidence are collected and analyzed for the crime and victims have to provide their belongings, including clothes they are wearing to preserve evidence. PAAR gives new clothes so victims can go home from the hospital.
PAAR relies on the donation of clothing from donors to continue its response and intervention.
As part of Sexual Assault Prevention month to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. Maj. Alicia Waters the Sexual Harassment Prevention Officer with the 316th ESC raised donations of clothes through other Army Reserve Soldiers and staff in order to help PAAR continue its support for victims. ‘I identified it as an active way to bring awareness to some of the injustices that victims of sexual violence face,” said Maj. Waters.
PAAR is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Pittsburgh community for more than 43 years. PAAR is dedicated to assisting victims of sexual abuse and ending sexual violence in the community.
