The Lansing-based 46th MPC is a two-star command that provides command and control tasks to National Guard units from around the country who may be called on to supplement local emergency operations in times of crisis. If local and state capabilities are overwhelmed or do not exist the governor of any state can request federal assistance thus triggering (if approved) the activation of the unique Michigan National Guard unit and associated units as requested.
The Department of Defense selected the 46th MPC to serve the nation in this role. The selection is a testament to the exceptional capabilities within the Michigan unit and the men and women that comprise it.
Exercise Vibrant Response 17 is a training scenario intended to qualify the Soldiers of the 46th on the critical tasks of managing and coordinating lifesaving and life-sustaining support to civilian authorities in times of crisis. The exercise allows the unit to work with other military and civilian counterparts from around the country who might also be responding.
“This force is the only one of its kind and is comprised of National Guard forces from around the country,” said Brig. Gen. Michael T. White, commander of the 46th Military Police Command. “Of course we hope to never have to do this mission, but exercises like Vibrant Response prove that the 46th MPC is qualified and capable should we get the call. I could not be more proud of the men and women in the 46th for being selected for this mission.”
