188th Infantry Brigade
FORT STEWART, Ga. - Eight members of the motorcycle riding group, dedicated to community service and to mentoring fellow riders, joined representatives from Liberty Regional to present the check to the hospital.
"We live here and want to give something back to the community," said Joseph Mayfield, the chapter president. Mayfield is the command sergeant major for the 188th Infantry Brigade at Fort Stewart and strongly believes in leading by example. Besides starting up the Front Runnerz, he has instituted a comprehensive motorcycle mentoring and safety program in his brigade.
"Our mammography suit is rather sterile," said Sam Johnson, chief financial officer of Liberty Regional. "We want to liven it up and make it more comfortable for the patients."
Donna Cochran, director of nursing, agreed. "We have a couple of patients ask us to do something about it and several of our employees are undergoing treatment as well, so this is near and dear to our hearts."
The group was given a short tour of the mammography area and shown some of the new radiological technology that the hospital hopes to expand for more flexible patient support.
Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Brinson, safety officer for the 188th Infantry Brigade and a member of the Front Runners was there as well. "There are about 25 members in Hinesville, with the main chapter in Atlanta. The majority are Soldiers and family members from the 188th Brigade, but there are other members as well. We wanted to make a charitable donation to help the hospital and the community."
"This will be wonderful," said Rene Harwell, the director of marketing. "We are very excited to be able to do some remodeling and make it more friendly."
She invited the group to come back and see the suite after it had been remodeled.
