    JORDAN - Soldiers with the 360th Psychological Operations Company, 11th Battalion, 2nd Group, out of Jersey City, New Jersey, had the opportunity to work with Jordanian Armed Forces from the Directorate of Moral Guidance at the the U.S. Army Central contingency command post tactical operations center during exercise Eager Lion, May 14, at the Joint Training Center.

    The two teams spent time researching cultural messaging and creating military information support operations products.

    Sgt. Daniel Fusco, the noncommisioned officer in charge of the 360th PSYOPS Co., explained that psychological operations is importance because it allows forces to change the battlefield without firing a single weapon.

    “We can hit them with a piece of paper and try to get the enemy do what we want them to do,” said Fusco. “whether they do it or not is the trick of the job.”

    U.S. Army Cpl. Amanda Garrett, a multimedia illustrator with the 360th PSYOPS Co., explained that the training allowed the U.S. and Jordanian teams to teach each other. The 360th PSYOP team demonstrated their process for creating products, while the Jordanians explained how the products produced may effect the target audience.

    “It has been an eye opening experience,” said Garrett. “We have showed them the process of writing out concepts for products, sketching out the idea, and creating.”

    Spc. Annabela Stigliano, a psychological operation specialist with the 360th PSYOP Co., explained that the experience of working with the Jordanians has been very beneficial.

    “We come up with these ideas and create products,” said Stigliano. “It might mean something to us, but have a completely different meaning to them.”

    Coming from a combat military occupational specialty, Fusco said he didn't realize the impact of psychological operations and sometimes the mission of military information support operations gets overlooked.

    “I used to be a Calvary scout, and then transferred to the PSYOP role,” said Fusco. “Given an opportunity, PSYOPS can have a positive impact on the battlefield and decrease casualties across many spectrums.”

    One of the purposes of exercise Eager Lion is to exercise U.S. services members ability to integrate with multinational forces from different parts of the world, and enhance interoperability and cooperation among participants. Soldiers of the 360th PSYOPS Co. are doing just that by working hand in hand with Jordanian soldiers in order to better understand each other and help each other better perform in a moment of crisis.
