FORT IRWIN, Calif. -- The Philadelphia, Mississippi-based 367th Maintenance Company, Mississippi Army National Guard, is conducting vehicle maintenance support for Mississippi’s 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team’s vast array of vehicles during the team’s rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California.
NTC is the U.S. military’s premiere training facility for combat operations. The 155th and supporting units will face physical and mental challenging scenarios that have been developed through actual combat experiences around the world in an environment that cannot be replicated in Mississippi.
The company’s role is to ensure vehicles and equipment are serviceable for Soldiers that go out for training, said 1st Lt. Kenneth Roby, an officer-in-charge for 367th’s motor pool operations.
Soldiers of the 367th performed preventative maintenance, checks, and service, or PMCS, by checking the fluid levels and parts for serviceability before they are used in training.
“We have our Soldiers PMCS’ing, making sure everything is topped off and running well,” said Roby.
All the procedures that the company performs, such as PMCS and equipment installation, makes the training safe and reliable for units that will use the vehicles for the rotation, said Roby.
“Any downfalls we have we try to get on it and fix it,” said Roby.
In addition to providing vehicle maintenance support for the 155th, a different section of the company installs Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Systems, or “MILES,” to vehicles and equipment in preparation for simulated combat scenarios, said Staff Sgt. Jared Routon, the non-commissioned officer-in-charge of the electronics section.
To ensure essential communication capabilities, the Soldiers install communications equipment on High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, or “humvees,” prior to the simulated combat operations at NTC, said Routon.
With the maintenance support of the 367th, 155th is ready to roll. The maintenance company will be assisting throughout the rotation, which ends in mid-June.
