Members of the Air and Army National Guard, some coming from as far as Hawaii, traveled to Warfield Air National Guard Base to participate in a three-day Joint Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration training course beginning May 23, 2017.
JRSOI is a process that transitions personnel, equipment and materials into forces capable of meeting the commander’s operational requirements.
The course teaches Defense Support of Civil Authorities and how to respond to national disasters such as 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina, said Army Maj. Travis Cole, NORAD U.S. Northern Command J723 team chief. The course provides guardsmen with doctrine and planning tools to improve response effectiveness.
JRSOI classes are held at least once a month and may be held more frequently to satisfy the needs of the state.
“Our organization has been around for about eight years and has been constantly adjusting and changing as events have been happening,” said Cole. “JRSOI is just a portion of Defense Support of Civil Authorities operations, but is an important one in terms of receiving people and getting them to the right place at the right time to support a joint task force commander.”
Attendees included service members from Warfield ANG Base and other bases in locations such as Wisconsin, Hawaii and Guam.
“Hawaii is in the process of developing it’s JRSOI plan,” said Army Col. Rudolph Ligsay, J3 for the Joint Force Headquarters Hawaii. “I needed to learn about JRSOI so I can facilitate that process.”
