EDISON, NJ – After 99 years, Soldiers of 3rd Battalion, 385th Regiment, 4th Brigade of the 98th Training Division (Initial Entry Training) – the last standing Battalion of the 385th – will close its doors for good.
The history of the 385th Regiment stretches back to its inception in 1918 and includes notable members such as Pvt. Audie Murphy. During World War II, the regiment fought campaigns in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. In 1996, the regiment fell under the 98th Training Division (IET) and recently fought in the Global War on Terror. Drill sergeants and Soldiers from the 385th have served in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2004. And for years, these Army Reserve drill sergeants have continued to train America’s Soldiers at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Knox.
Due to the restructuring of the Army Reserve forces and facilities, the 385th Regiment is completing its final chapter. The official deactivation ceremony for the historical unit is on June 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. During the ceremony, the regimental colors will be ceremonially cased at the U.S. Army Reserve Center at 2550 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison, New Jersey.
For more detailed information please contact Sgt. 1st Class Kyle Bell at 732-287-5454 or kyle.b.bell4@mail.mil. To RSVP for the ceremony, email or call the 98th Training Division (IET) public affairs officer, Maj. Michelle Lunato, at 706-963-9930 or michelle.a.lunato.civ@mail.mil.
