    505th Signal Brigade

MESA, Ariz. – Maj. Gen. Peter Bosse, 335th Signal Command (Theater) commanding general, and Brig. Gen. John Phillips, 335th SC (T) deputy commanding general-operations, traveled to Mesa, Arizona, at the Silvestre Herrera U.S. Army Reserve Center May 20, where they were briefed by Col. Jean Henderson, 505th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade commander, and her staff at their Yearly Training Brief.

Effective training is the Army’s number one priority during peacetime. Training management is the process used by Army leaders to identify training requirements and then plan, resource, execute and evaluate training.

“This yearly training briefing is important because we are in the process of getting the U.S. Army back to where it should be and have a program and system to answer our lifesaving communication demands,” said Henderson. “The Army is our people and Soldiers are our investment in America, and I expect my commanders, leaders and civilians to produce well-trained leaders who will achieve combat readiness.”

The Silvestre Herrera U.S. Army Reserve Center hall is adjacent to the Arizona State University campus, which provides Soldiers with access to facility services. The hall was filled with leaders from the 505th TTSB, who briefed the readiness of their units.

This annual briefing allows battalion and company commanders a chance to discuss training concepts, philosophies and challenges with the higher level commanders, respectively.

“Our goal is to maintain combat readiness and to invest in our people to be the best we can be,” said Lt. Col. Carlos Diaz, 505th TTSB operations officer. “We have to focus on growing leaders from within our ranks and we must be ready to deploy.”

One by one, each unit leader briefed Maj. Gen. Bosse and Brig. Gen. Phillips, and together each leader identified discrepancies, which were addressed and solutions were worked out.

Maj. Gen. Bosse and Brig. Gen. Phillips were thoroughly engaged in the briefings, making sure that the information put out was understood by all and making sure that their most important points were grasped and implemented.

The 505th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade is a specialized form of military brigade dedicated to providing communications. Other brigades might have a signals component, but a signals brigade is a brigade dedicated to Information and Communication Support (ICS) for both operational and administrative functions. It may also contain elements of life support for military headquarters.

The 335th Signal Command (Theater) is an operational and functional U.S. Army Reserve command, providing Signal and Cyber units in direct support of Army Reserve exercises and Homeland Defense missions throughout the United States.

In 2016, the 335th Signal Command (Theater) became the Army Reserve proponent for Defensive Cyber Operations/Forces for the Army Reserve as the Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group (ARCOG), transitioned from the 76th Operational Readiness Command (ORC) to the 335th SC (T).
