Service members gathered to welcome the new commander of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing during a ceremony May 31, 2017, Southwest Asia.
Brig. Gen. Kyle W. Robinson assumed command from Col. Clinton W. Eichelberger, with Maj. Gen. Dirk D. Smith, 9th Air Expeditionary Task Force-Levant commander, presiding over the ceremony.
“Eichelberger, know that departing here, you have made a significate contribution to this mission, to the service of your nation and to the security in this region,” Smith said. “Best of luck and wishes for your next chapter. I would be honored to follow you and check your six anytime in the future. Thank you for all your service and leadership.
“Robinson, you have the perfect background and experience to lead this wing and take it to the next level, building upon all the excellence the 332nd has already demonstrated,” he added.
Before relinquishing command, Eichelberger expressed his gratitude to everyone who made his time with the 332nd AEW a success, highlighting many of their accomplishments, which ranged from base expansions to setting records for munitions dropped.
“This has been an assignment of a lifetime and none of it could have been possible without the finest team anyone could ask for,” said Eichelberger. “My only regret is I will never be able to say ‘thanks,’ enough to all the Airmen who have inspired me with their positive attitudes.”
Robinson now commands a wing that traces its notable lineage back to World War II as the 332nd Fighter Group, home of the Tuskegee Airmen. The wing is currently made up of seven groups, with more than 4,500 people operating throughout its area of responsibility.
“I found out a while ago I was coming here and this day couldn’t come soon enough,” said Robinson. “I’m proud to be called a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, 332nd AEW. It’s very inspiring to see where we are today and see where we’re going to be in the future.”
Prior to his current assignment, he served as the 7th Air Force vice commander. He is also a command pilot with more than 3,300 hours in the F-15E/D, F-16D, AT-38B, B-1B, HH-60G and T-38A.
