Joint Force Headquarters - Idaho National Guard

A Joint Medical team of Army and Air National Guard members shared health information with nearly 200 school-age children and their families at the Duck Valley Children’s Health Fair, April 12, 2017 at the Duck Valley Indian Reservation.

The Shoshone Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, located on the Idaho-Nevada border and home to around 1,700 residents, requested national guard participation in the health fair to educate their youth on topics like health and nutrition with activities to promote exercise.

Idaho Army National Guard transported four medical personnel to the event in a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and met two ARNG recruiters on site. The National Guard had two booths at the event, one Army and one Air, and provided a 30-minute presentation on health and wellness that was well received. The joint medical team presentation included brief introductions by the members and information on posture, fitness, hydration, sleep, nutrition and holistic wellness.

Active duty medical personnel from Mountain Home Air Force Base also presented at the event and discussed future collaboration with the National Guard medical team. In 2016 the leaders of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes and 366th Fighter Wing at MHAFB signed a Memorandum of Understanding that solidified a commitment to collaborate in prudent decision-making when it comes to the cultural and natural resources of public lands, to protect the culture of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes, and to carry out the military mission of MHAFB.

The National Guard medical team is exploring future opportunities to collaborate with the Duck Valley community with a focus on promoting public health, resource collaboration, and identify health gaps and develop gap closing initiatives.
