NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES, Ill. – Master Sgt. David D. Roberts retired from the Marine Corps, today, after 23 years of honorable and faithful service.
Roberts, born in Bronx, N.Y., in 1976, joined the Marine Corps out of Los Angeles in 1993 and served as an administrative Marine.
He served in multiple administrative roles during his long career at Camp Pendleton, California; Military Entrance Processing Station, Shreveport, Louisiana; Recruiting Station Louisville, Kentucky; Recruiting Station Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina and 9th Marine Corps District in Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with one silver and one gold star.
The 9th Marine Corps District, headquartered in Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, is responsible for recruiting both enlisted and commissioned Marines from nearly 700,000 square miles of Midwestern America that includes portions of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. It includes about 1,000 Marines, sailors and civilian employees.
Roberts is married with eight children and is the youngest child of Ulysses and Selma.
