FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard held a change of responsibility ceremony here June 4, 2017.
The ceremony was held to welcome Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew K. Campbell to the 213th Regional Support Group and to honor Sgt. Maj. Matt Hensinger, the outgoing senior noncommissioned officer.
Hensinger served as the Group Command Sergeant Major and oversaw RSG Soldiers as they carried out their duties in multiple operational theaters including Iraq, Germany and Korea.
“I’m grateful for you all to be here, each and every one,” said Hensinger, who left a final message for the Soldiers.
“Today as I say farewell, I want to leave you with a message that I hope will be a lasting memory to be used by each of you as you carry out the work of the 213th Group in the future,” said Hensinger. “We should every day do something to be decent to each other, take care of each other, be there for each other,” he continued.
This responsibility will now fall to Campbell, who assumed responsibility for the 213th Regional Support Group on Feb. 3, 2016.
“The most important role of the [Command Sergeant Major] is to advise the commander on all things enlisted: training; morale; discipline, and above all, to lead by example. Everything from how I address the junior enlisted Soldiers to how I speak to senior officers – I have to live it,” said Campbell. “I cannot just talk it – I have to live it. If I cannot do that, I am in the wrong job,” continued Campbell, who calls Waynesboro home.
Soldiers from the various units of the 213th Regional Support Group attended the ceremony standing in formation as the symbolic implements of the office passed between the two senior noncommissioned officers.
“Senior leadership across enlisted and officer corps is the undeniable strength of the 213th RSG. The experience level is second to none,” said Campbell. “They know what they are doing. They take charge of their sections. They know their mission and they execute. I look forward to surrounding myself with this leadership and becoming part of the team.”
Campbell says the National Guard and the 213th Regional Support Group play an integral part in the nation’s defense.
“I cannot predict where the RSG will be in the next few years, but I watch the news like everyone else,” said Campbell. “The war on terror is far from over, so we need to keep training and keep driving forward like we are deploying. If we have that mentality, we will be ready to serve wherever we go and whenever we are called,” he said.
