    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The 603rd Aviation Support Battalion and the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade welcomed new commanders during ceremonies held at Hunter Army Airfield June 6-7.
The Workhorse battalion warmly welcomed Lt. Col. Arlin R. Wilsher as the new commanding officer and bid farewell to Lt. Col. Daryl S. von Hagel.
The Knighthawks of 2nd Bn., 3rd Avn. Reg. welcomed Lt. Col. Paul R. Roley as the new commanding officer and bid farewell to Lt. Col. Jason L. West.
Col. Jeffrey A. Becker, commander, 3rd CAB, spoke about the mission of the 603rd ASB and how the success of the CAB depends on the success of the Workhorse Soldiers.
“Nothing happens in this brigade without the individual and collective efforts and skills of the Soldiers you see to your forefront. These are true Workhorses,” Becker said. “Lt. Col. Daryl S. von Hagel is an outstanding leader, immensely competent and committed to leading the Workhorse battalion to the peak of readiness.”
The Falcon Brigade commander also had good things to say about the skill of the Knighthawk Soldiers.
“The Knighthawk Soldiers before you are the reason 2nd Bn., 3rd Avn. Reg. is the best general support aviation battalion in our Army,” Becker said.
The outgoing commander of the 603rd ASB, Lt. Col. Daryl S. von Hagel commented.
“If I have learned anything over the past 21 months it is this. Be both a servant and a leader. Be genuine. Note the difference between what one wants and what one needs,” von Hagel said. “Never ask your Soldiers to do something you wouldn’t do yourself, and every day is leader professional development.”
The outgoing commander of the 2nd Bn., 3rd Avn. Reg., Lt. Col. Jason L. West thanked the group of people who made his successful command possible.
“The one thing I have learned that makes the difference between those that succeed and those that do not is simply effort. Some doors may close and we experience adversity, but it’s what you do at that point that sets you apart,” West said.
The incoming commander of the 2nd Bn., 3rd Avn. Reg., Lt. Col. Paul R. Roley commented.
“It is a distinct and humble honor to take command of this magnificent battalion,” Roley said. “They are hands down the best GSAB [general support aviation battalion] in the Army today and we stand ready to answer our nation’s call.”
The incoming commander of the 603rd ASB, Lt. Col. Arlin R. Wilsher commented.
“Having never served in the 3rd Infantry Division before, I am grateful to be a part of the rich traditions and history and lineage of this great division,” Wilsher said. “I pledge that we will continue to live up to the legacy established by our predecessors.”
