HOHENFELS, Germany – Soldiers from the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard provided support to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center during Combined Resolve VIII here May 24 to June 12, 2017.

Six Soldiers from the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment supported Combined Resolve VIII by providing media replication in the field and augmenting the Joint Multinational Readiness Center public affairs office by producing various command information products.

“Bringing cohesive public affairs teams like the 109th to JMRC for exercises like Combined Resolve VIII is invaluable to us,” said Cpt. Christopher Bradley, Joint Multinational Readiness Center public affairs officer. “In order to conduct professional media replication and training, and cover the 3500 Soldiers and 11 NATO allies that participate, we need outside support,” he continued.

“It's also a benefit to us because the Soldiers that come to us from the reserves have such varied experiences and talents, and they bring so much experience to the table,” said Bradley, “I personally have learned some great new public affairs techniques working with the 109th, and I hope this experience has been just as valuable to them.”

This exercise gave the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment Soldiers an excellent opportunity to practice a broad spectrum of public affairs tasks, said Maj. Angela King-Sweigart, 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment Commander.

“The Soldiers were able to cross-train on each other's skill sets in preparation for the merging of the two public affairs skills journalists and broadcasts in 2019,” said King-Sweigart. “All of the Soldiers did an outstanding job, I'm very proud of them for being flexible and taking initiative to learn a new skill set,” she added.

Capt. Cory Johnson, public affairs officer with the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment agreed that this annual training was an exceptional learning opportunity.

"I felt this annual training had me multitasking more than those I’ve done in the past, and I now feel I am ready to take on a bigger role with greater responsibility," said Johnson.

Spc. Anna Churco, public affairs specialist with the 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, said this was a great experience for her first annual training.

“I've gotten the opportunity to work with other countries and I think overall this annual training has made me a better and more well-rounded Soldier,” said Churco.

1st Sgt. Steve Markowski, 109th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment noncommissioned officer in charge said he was impressed with the level of realism the exercise provided and the opportunities the multinational environment offered.

“We're fortunate to participate in Combined Resolve VIII, and this experience will improve readiness for our Citizen Soldiers,” added Markowski.
