The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Walla Walla District will help usher in summer and celebrate “Esprit de Corps” with a Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) booth and water safety booth at the school’s Field Day. In addition, Fire District #4 will be on site with their fire truck.

Activities for primary students (grades K-2) will be in the morning from 9:00-11:00 am, while activities for students in grades 3-5 are in the afternoon from 12:00-2:00 pm. There are 10 activity stations that include an obstacle course, sponge race, tug-of-war, water balloon challenge, shoe lawn darts, pizza box race, a water safety course, and snow cone/popcorn stations for snack breaks.

Staff and parent volunteers will be supervising and assisting students through the station rotations and making sure everyone is having a safe and fun time.

Ms. Gina Cox, Prospect Point Elementary school head secretary said, “Field Day at Prospect Point has been celebrated for eight years. It brings students, staff and volunteers together in fellowship and activity before children are released for summer vacation.”

That legacy of safety, recreation and innovation is one that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shares.

Corps park rangers and volunteers will provide water safety education according to Natural Resource Manager Christopher Alford.

“Reach, Throw, Row, Don’t Go teaches children how to have a safe and enjoyable experience on public lands and the water,” he said.

Corp’s STEM booth will feature a giant Jenga puzzle which, teaches children about loads, tension, compression and torsion. Imagine using a game of 54 blocks to teach children the basics of structural engineering and inspiring learning through play.

Prospect Points Elementary Schools Field Day will be held at: 55 Reser Rd, Walla Walla on June 13th.

The Corps of Engineers’ mission is dedicated to serving the Nation. Participating in Prospect Point’s Field Day is one of many opportunities that the Corps takes to give back to the community and its’ future.
