CAMP BUEHRING, KUWAIT - Lt. Col. Anthony L. Wilson Sr., a Pensacola, Fla. native, took command of the 10th Mountain Division’s 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in a ceremony at Camp Buehring, Kuwait on June 5, 2017.
Col. Shawn C. Schuldt, the commander of the 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, traveled to Kuwait from Fort Drum, N.Y. to oversee the ceremony as the battalion colors were passed from outgoing commander Lt. Col. Douglas C. Thompson to Wilson.
“It was an honor to have the 10th Sustainment Brigade Commander here to officiate the 548th change of command, especially because of our Northeast Regional Partnership relationship and the opportunity for our organizations to continue to excel together,” said Col. Stephen Bousquet, the commander of the 369th Sustainment Brigade.
The 369th SB is the higher headquarters of the battalion while they are deployed to Kuwait. The 548th CSSB conducts sustainment operations throughout the Middle East, providing supplies and services in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve.
“It’s been a great experience the last two months,” Thompson said of his short time deployed to Kuwait. “The 369th Brigade Command Team has been phenomenal. Colonel Bousquet and CSM Mclean let me lead and they were always there to support me whenever I needed anything. Never ever was there a moment that they did not support me when I needed something.”
In his speech during the ceremony, Thompson said that the last two years as commander of the 548th CSSB has been the highlight of his professional career. He will now move on to become the logistics officer for the 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, N.Y. Thompson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Athens State University and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University. His previous assignment was as the Joint Operations and Plans Officer and Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff of U.S. European Command Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.
“I took the position because I love the 10th Mountain Division, and I love the Soldiers. I just want to make sure to do everything possible to support the division and make it proud,” said Thompson.
Thompson says that Wilson brings a lot of experience and will do great things as commander of the 548th CSSB. Wilson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics from Alabama A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. His previous assignment was as the Assistant Executive Office to the Deputy Commanding General of Army Materiel Command. He says he looks forward to continuing the work that Thompson started.
“I have a fantastic staff, great XO, great support operations officer and a great team. I just want to keep the momentum going. They already have the framework laid down to continue the state of operations. There’s a lot going on but I am confident that we’ll be able to keep the momentum going,” said Wilson. “This is not a change in mission, only a change in leadership. We will continue to be warfighter logisticians and provide sustainment in this area of operations.”
