Tech Sgt. David Shore, an emergency management technician assigned to the 913th Force Support Squadron, trains Reserve Airmen assigned to the 913 AG to respond to emergency situations they might encounter here or in a deployed environment.
Shore, who hails from Van Nuys, California, said he joined the military because he didn’t know what he wanted to do.
“I was hoping to gain some practical skills, as well as some direction in life,” Shore said. “I chose the Emergency Management career field because the blurb in the recruiter’s book of job descriptions made it sound interesting.”
The initial Emergency Management training course is 13 weeks and 2 days at the 364th Training Squadron / Detachment 1, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Airmen, civilians and foreign military are trained there before taking on their initial assignments as readiness technicians.
The course includes training on general contingency responsibilities; Air Force Disaster Preparedness Program, organization, and responsibilities; readiness disaster response planning, recovery from major accidents and natural disasters; wartime operations and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive (CBRN-E) operations including detection and decontamination.
Shore has been an Air Reserve Technician (ART) since 2012, and arrived at the 913 AG in December 2014. He manages the Emergency Management program for the group and plans training for Reservists, reviews procedures and coordinates with the 19th Emergency Management Flight.
Emergency management technicians train our Airmen to survive and respond to disasters, whether natural or man-made, and are often able to assist civilian authorities and the local community is just a bonus.”
“I’ve been in this career field since I joined, (the Air Force) and I love it,” Shore said.
