Sailors and Marines from Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach volunteered to run with students from Princess Anne Elementary School at Naval Air Station Oceana’s Dam Neck Annex, June 9.
The annual run takes place prior to the end of the school year and gives students a chance to interact with Sailors and Marines through physical fitness. Fifty-five service members and 28 students participated in this year’s run.
“This is a great event that our staff looks forward to each year,” said Cmdr. Andrew Boyden, IWTC Virginia Beach’s commanding officer. “The opportunity to break from the daily routine and engage with and mentor the young school children was welcomed by the IWTC Virginia Beach and Marine detachment team.”
The event took participants across two miles of Dam Neck Annex and ended along the beach on the north side of the base.
“This was a great team building opportunity for everyone involved,” said Intelligence Specialist 1st Class Christina Wilson. “The children ran like champs and enjoyed every aspect of the run. This is a perfect way to end the school year.”
IWTC Virginia Beach, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel, preparing them to conduct Information Warfare (IW) across the full spectrum of military operations.
