CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – Sgt. Maj. Anthony Spadaro, senior enlisted leader of U.S. Pacific Command, spoke to non-commissioned officers about the mission and importance of the USPACOM Aug. 10 in the base theater aboard Camp Foster.

The brief was to educate the NCOs, who are the future of the military, on the strategic influence and importance of PACOM.

“Sixty percent of the entire United States Army, Air force, Navy, and Marine Corps is stationed in PACOM,” said Spadaro. “This is what makes PACOM so important.”

The mission of PACOM is to maintain the stability of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region by promoting security cooperation, encouraging peaceful deployment, and deterring aggression. This is done by our partnership within allied communities, our presence in allied countries, and military readiness.

“More people live inside the Pacific area than outside it,” said Spadaro. “What does that tell you? That it is an area ripe for conflict. It can be an area ripe for warfare but it could also be an area ripe for innovation. The next Nobel Peace prize winner could be there. The person to discover the cure for cancer could be there. We need to be aware of what is going on in that circle.”

Service members in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region face challenges, but as long as they stay united and vigilant they can better deal with adversity.

“What I need from you, because I love you and want you to be successful, is to take care of each other,” said Spadaro “You matter, you’re going to make a difference.”
