FORT SAM HOUSTON – Since 9/11 and our nation’s engagement in both Iraq and Afghanistan, many of our military service members return with burns, traumatic brain injury, amputations and many other orthopedic needs.
Those needs are met at the Center for the Intrepid where they receive cutting-edge, state-of-the-art rehabilitation and prosthetics.
Leaders from Headquarters, Headquarters Battalion, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), toured the facility recently to learn the importance of support and care provided to our wounded warriors.
“This center is important because it is one of a few facilities that are designed specifically to deal with amputees and the, rehabilitation and reintegration back into society with the confidence to be a fully functioning member of society without the need to be helped,” said 1st Sgt. Nathanial Hanrahan, Operations Company.
The facilities capabilities include world-renowned technologies designed to be used for rehabilitation, research, education and training.
“I learned that CFI has a very advanced world class state-of-the-art facility for rehabilitation that treats Soldiers by incorporating fun ways such as extreme sports to maximize their potential and training,” said Cpt. Jung P. Son, commander, Headquarters Support Company.
Some wounded warriors are able to recover and reintegrate back into the fighting force.
Not only does it help wounded warriors reintergrate with society, CFI also maintains our military’s readiness assisting Soldiers with rehabilitation and reintegrate them back to the military force through treatment and training.
“I would encourage other leaders to take advantage of the tour that CFI provides, so they have situational awareness of this great resource that is available to their Soldiers who are qualified for the rehabilitation program,” Son says. “CFI has very advanced state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment, which provides Soldiers with simulation training, therapy and extreme sports.”
“It is a phenomenal facility that everyone should visit, and if anyone has ever doubted the amount of support that the American public shows to the men and women of the Armed Forces, they only have to step inside and behold the amazing display of appreciation,” added Hanrahan.
The Center for the Intrepid strives to return patients to the highest level of physical, psychological and emotional function possible.
