The community in and around Ft. Stewart often supports Soldiers in many ways, from schooling children to welcoming troops back from deployment. Sgt. 1st Class Jesse Jackson, the HHC first sergeant, said that the ability to help to the community who has done so much is a great feeling.
“It’s our time to give back,” Jackson said. “We’re always looking for programs and volunteer opportunities to support the community.”
Despite the company’s busy schedule of staffing the battalion with its mechanics, cooks, and ammunition specialists, they are still able to conduct outreach programs into the Hinesville community. According to the Soldiers, the feeling of satisfaction from being able to volunteering is reward enough.
“I feel so thankful,” said Sgt. Jennifer Osuch, an ammunition specialist assigned to HHC. “It’s a great way for us to help the school as a whole.”
Soldiers have participated in outreach programs in the school such as reading to kids, helping with field days, or donating to the school’s uniform closet. The Soldiers as serve as a good example to the children. By seeing these Soldiers volunteer and giving back to the community, it can encourage children to volunteer as well.
Osuch’s son attends Button Gwinnett Elementary School and was able to see his mother donate the supplies.
“Doing this now makes me more conscience of volunteering more,” Osuch said. “It can increase my son’s consciousness of others and he can learn by my example.”
