FORT GORDON, GA – There’s a saying in the Army that goes, “good units do routine tasks routinely”.
Soldiers of the 67th Expeditionary Signal Battalion did marksmanship training in a 2-day process. Taking their Soldiers to the Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 followed by qualification at range six and seven the next day.
Having familiarity with your weapon is paramount to the skills of marksmanship and the ability to qualify.
ESTs safely replicate weapon training events which lead to live fire individual and weapon crew qualification and that contribute to increased weapon, crew, fire team, and squad combat effectiveness in training exercises and qualifications.
Also saving the country money by not having to expend ammunition or fuel for travel to and from traditional ranges while still getting familiar with the weapon systems.
“Having the ability to help new Soldiers as well as Soldiers who may not have handled a weapon recently earn and regain skills associated with our warrior tasks,” said Sgt. 1st Class Leona Clark, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (rear detachment), first sergeant. “Also it assures Soldiers readiness in the event that we are called to a combat zone.”
Maintaining the standard of readiness, weapon proficiency and familiarity is key. If you don’t know the weapon system how could you possibly maintain or employ it to its specifications.
These training experiences are great in many ways new Soldiers get familiar with weapons, new leaders get an opportunity to train, and seasoned Soldiers have time to work with the Soldiers from the other levels.
