    420th Engineer Brigade

Soldiers from the National Guard’s 215th Engineering Company-Vertical out of Puerto Rico, and the 207th Engineering Company-Horizontal from Kentucky are working to make security improvements to Baghram Air Field, Afghanistan.

“The 207th takes great pride in contributing to the fight by performing construction missions,” said Capt. Brian Ladd, 207th Engineer Company commander.

The 207th Engineer Company began construction of a “soak yard.” A soak yard is a designated area for vehicles to remain under watch for a given duration of time before they are deemed safe for movement onto the compound. The overall end state of the project is to allow the task force at BAF to improve their command, control, and force protection posture

“This site will be an enduring force protection asset that will improve the safety of U.S. personnel for several years to come,” said Ladd.

The team from the 215th Engineer Company began constructing a new guard house near an entry control point for the U.S. Forces Afghanistan Headquarters Compound. This is to provide both Bosnian soldiers and U.S. Army 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade Soldiers additional and adequate space to conduct entry control security operations. It will also provide the guards a place to escape the heat and sun during the hot summer months.

Command Sgt. Maj. Adam Brown, of the 420th Engineer Brigade had the opportunity to visit Soldiers working in Afghanistan.

“They’re doing an exceptional job emplacing and improving force protection and providing other construction effects to the mission,” said Brown. “The 854th Engineer Battalion and the 207th and 215th Engineer Companies are great examples of the diversity that general engineering support provides to the operation. The dedication and pride they put into their efforts toward the fight is nothing short of phenomenal.”

The unique task organization of the units under the 420th Theater Engineer Brigade provide the opportunity for Soldiers to work in a country other than the location of the company or brigade headquarters.
The 420th Theater Engineer Brigade is headquartered at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The brigade has oversight of multiple projects spanning seven countries and utilizes liaison officers to maintain situational awareness and project tracking throughout their vast area of operation.

Companies are assigned multiple projects and have teams assigned to various locations. The 215th Engineer Company is headquartered at Camp Buehring, and the 207th is headquartered at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, both with teams working BAF.
