AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - As a member of the U.S. Air Force Academy’s In the Stairwell, Cadet 1st Class Mackenzie Lerum, San Diego native, will be performing at the America’s Got Talent semi-final round Sept. 12.
“I am excited and humbled to represent the Air Force on such a big stage,” Lerum said. “We wouldn't have made it anywhere on the show without coming together and working hard.”
In the Stairwell is the Academy’s all-male a Capella group formed in 2004 by freshmen cadets who sang together in the only place they could, their dormitory stairwells.
The group was invited by America’s Got Talent producers to compete on the show after they watched a YouTube video of the group performing last fall.
“The best part of the show has been meeting Brittany, my new girlfriend and contestant on the show as well,” Lerum said.
Lerum is currently in his senior year at the Academy.
