CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Two Kosovo Security Force service members visited Camp Bondsteel, August 8, 2017, as part of a mentorship program before heading to their respective training locations in the United States.
1st Lt. Albert Asllani, a KSF land forces command security operations officer, and 2nd Lt. Milosh Denic, a KSF transportations platoon leader, were given the opportunity to talk to their U.S. Army counterparts to better prepare them for their visit to America. The two KSF personnel will go to Fort Gordon, Georgia, and Fort Lee, Virginia in order to attend their respective training as a communications officer and a logistics officer.
They attended an orientation in order to understand the intent of the individual courses as well as receive some U.S. cultural briefings, which included living and environmental conditions.
Neither of them have ever been to America to visit, nor have they ever been there for any kind of training. Both KSF officers toured Camp Bondsteel and toured the Post Exchange, the gymnasium, the food court, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation building and other places in order to get a little bit of an idea of what they could expect to see when they get to Fort Gordon and Fort Lee.
“The intent of today’s visit was to build a good rapport with Asllani and Denic, as well as the KSF personnel,” said Maj. Christopher Evans, the Multinational Battle Group - East brigade communications automations officer in charge. “We used Camp Bondsteel as an idea of what kind of environment they could expect while at the U.S. Army training areas.”
The mentorship program offered Denic the opportunity to see what kind of equipment he would be working with during his specific military training.
Cpt. James Culver, MNBG-East’s division transportation officer and Denic’s mentor, introduced Denic to CW2 Antonio Pouncy, MNBG - East’s supply support activity accountable officer in charge at Camp Bondsteel. Pouncy showed Denic some electronic ordering and issuing procedures that would be part of his training at Fort Lee.
Denic will learn a lot about warehouse and issuing procedures of different classes of equipment while at school, said Culver. As a quartermaster, he has to learn exactly how to complete the proper forms in order to request the right equipment and make sure that the equipment is sent out to the right location.
“The training I got today was good and I know what kind of training to expect with the help of Cpt. Culver,” said Denic. “He has taught me a lot about the logistic procedures and I know the knowledge I get from school will help me when I come back to Kosovo.”
Just like Denic, Asllani also had the opportunity to learn about his schooling in America from 1st Lt. Christopher Young, the MNBG-East’s deputy communications officer. Young showed Asllani some of the communications and tactical equipment that he could expect to see during the Signals Captain’s Career Course at Fort Gordon.
The intent of the orientation was to give Asllani an understanding of the course and to help him with the day-to-day training that he will experience while there, said Young.
At the end of the day, Asllani said that his visit at Camp Bondsteel was beneficial and has better prepared him for his upcoming training.
“The visit was very helpful because it gave me an understanding of the course,” said Asllani. “Maj. Evans and 1st Lt. Young taught me a lot about what to expect when I’m there. This will help me plan ahead and do my best at the course.”
