Marine Week Detroit will take place from Sept. 6 -10. This will be the ninth iteration since the Marine Week program started in 2009. Marine Week provides an opportunity for the citizens of Detroit and the surrounding area to meet their Marines and see firsthand, the latest capabilities of today’s Marine Corps.
“By doing these flights with the local community and civic leaders, it gives them a chance to interact with our Marines and take a look at our gear, specifically the MV-22 Osprey which we showed them today, said Maj. Kolin Doezema, Operations officer for Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166. “We get to fly them throughout the local area and they get to see their hometown from a different view, and they also get to experience what its like to ride in the back of this aircraft.”
During the flight the osprey conducted aerial maneuvers and gave passengers an aerial view of Detroit.
“This was an experience of a lifetime, and I truly appreciate the experience that I was able to take part in today”, said Brenda Jones, the Detroit City Council President.
Throughout the course of the week the Marines will be conducting similar events to help Detroiters better understand the mission of the Marine Corps and to promote a greater relationship between Marines and the people of Detroit.
