188th Infantry Brigade
FORT STEWART, Ga. - Approximately 3500 Soldiers from the Texas National Guard 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team continue preparing for deployment to Iraq this fall.
With the continued support of the Fort Stewart community, observer-controller / trainers and support personnel from First Army Division East are providing a realistic and intense training experience for the Texas Soldiers.
"Our goal is to provide a safe, yet deadly force to the combatant commander in Iraq," said Col. George Geczy, commander, 188th Infantry Brigade. "We want to provide a world class training environment that replicates what these Soldiers may experience in Iraq," continued Geczy.
The 188th Infantry Brigade and its subordinate units from Fort Stewart and Fort Gillem plan, resource and conduct combat logistics patrol situational exercises, gunnery, urban operations and base defense operations for the mobilized 56th IBCT. Observer-controller / trainers review the training unit's progress and provide feedback on performance and readiness for deployment.
The 4th Cavalry Brigade, from Fort Knox, is augmenting the 188th throughout the training event.
The Soldiers of the 188th Infantry Brigade and the 4th Cavalry Brigade are subject matter experts capable of providing the 56th IBCT with useful tactics, techniques and procedures for the unit's upcoming Iraq deployment.
The 56th IBCT will conduct a security force mission once they arrive in Iraq this fall. Convoy security and force protection will be the cornerstone of daily operations during the 56th IBCT mission in Iraqi. These missions place Soldiers on roads and in guard towers throughout Iraq and are often considered the most dangerous duties our troops encounter.
