The mission of Southwest Solutions Piquette Square is to provide quality and affordable housing to veterans in need.
“Today we came out to Piquette Square, mainly to reach out to the veterans and to give back for what they’ve done for us”, said Pfc. Shane Canavan, a motor transportation Marine with 1st Combat Logistics Battalion.
During the luncheon, Marines and veterans conversed about past experiences, future plans, and their love for the military.
“They wanted to know our history and what we went through,” said Kevin Radike, a Marine veteran, “You have to learn from each other and each others experiences.”
The luncheon gave Marines and veterans the opportunity to communicate and assist one another.
“We asked the veterans for their advice, that way we could learn from their experiences and take away from that,” Canavan said.
Throughout the course of the week, the Marines will be conducting similar events to help Detroit citizens better understand the mission of the Marine Corps and to promote a greater relationship between Marines and the people of Detroit.
