AURORA, Colo. (NNS) – Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Colorado conducted an operational pause Aug. 30 to focus our energy and intellect on the fundamentals of our mission and overall risk management.

As directed by Vice Adm. Mike Gilday, Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) in support of directions provided by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson, the event focused on operational risk management and Safety, drug and alcohol prevention, health and wellness, personnel readiness, continuity of operations, and procedural compliance.

“The operational pause provided valuable information with numerous resources from the command and the base,” said Cryptologic Technician (Technical) 2nd Class Myles Bunde Green. “It is important for us to realize that there are always areas for improvement, especially those that affect our mission and watchstanders.”

Admiral Richardson said, he ordered an “operational pause” for Navy fleet commanders to review teamwork, safety, seamanship and other “fundamentals.” Following each topic the command broke into focus groups to discuss its impact to the command and how to improve upon the processes.

“It was nice to see them break the training down into small groups for more focused training,” said Cryptologic Technician (Technical) 2nd Class Alex Spradlin. “Many issues were brought to light from Sailors throughout the training that was especially helpful for first-term Sailors and seasoned Sailors alike.”

NIOC Colorado is a subordinate command of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command and comprises Task Group 101 of the U.S. 10th Fleet. Based at Buckley Air Force Base, its mission is to provide ready, trained and motivated Information Warfare Officers, Cryptologic Enlisted Personnel, and expertise to support fleet, combat forces, and national intelligence operations requirements worldwide.
