Sailors and Marines at Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach competed in the annual Intelligence School Olympics, Sept. 22.

The competition pits the Navy students against the Marine detachment in a test of motivation, teamwork and physical fitness as they compete for the Boar’s Head trophy. The winners display the Boar’s Head in their wing of the training building.

The Intelligence School Olympics is a tradition at IWTC Virginia Beach that dates back nearly 20 years. Sailors and Marines compete in multiple events, each accumulating points for the respective service. Students participate in 13 events ranging from pull-ups and push-ups to softball games and tire races, culminating in “king or queen of the hill” where the services grapple in a muddy version of musical chairs.

“It was great to see the unity this event created, not only among the Sailors, but also the Blue/Green team of the Navy and Marine Corps”, said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jesse Harrahill, who leads the Navy’s intelligence specialist “A” school. “Regardless of who wins the Boar’s Head, the operational commanders are truly the beneficiary of this event”.

For the last 10 years, each service has held the Boar’s Head for two consecutive years. This year, the Marine Corps broke that streak and prevented a second Navy win.

"At the end of the day, we are all on the same team,” said Cmdr. Andrew Boyden, commanding officer of IWTC Virginia Beach. “These events serve to strengthen that team. Hard work, teamwork and esprit de corps have been lasting values of our fighting force from the beginning. But the Boar's Head will be back in the (Navy) intel wing next year."

Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, provides a continuum of training to both active and reserve, Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
