FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site celebrated its acquisition of a UH-60M, the newest model of Black Hawk helicopter, and a Black Hawk Aircrew Trainer (BAT) Device 5 simulator September 28 in a ceremony here.
With these acquisitions, EAATS, administered by the Pennsylvania National Guard, will be the only site outside Fort Rucker, Alabama to offer UH-60M Aircraft Qualification Transition beginning in November.
“Today opens a new chapter for EAATS,” said Lt. Col. Todd Tuttle, commander of the Eastern Army Aviation Training Site. “We are now without a doubt the premier reserve component training site in the Eastern United States.”
This new capability and the new training audiences it will draw highlights Fort Indiantown Gap’s status as the busiest National Guard training center in the nation.
The BAT simulator was constructed on site specifically for EAATS in a partnership between the Utility Helicopters Project Office and the Army's Aviation and Missile Research, Design and Engineering Center. It will enable the full range of capabilities to train in the most advanced Utility and Cargo Platforms the US Army has to offer.
Civilian Aid to the Secretary of the Army, retired Maj. Gen. Robert French, Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli, Pennsylvania adjutant general, Brig. Gen. Timothy Hilty, Pennsylvania assistant adjutant general, Brig. Gen. David Wood, director of the Joint Staff, and Mr. Joseph Creekmoore, Project Director and Senior Engineer Black Hawk Aircrew Trainer or (BAT) were present for the ceremony.
