    ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (Oct. 6, 2017) — The deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, or RDECOM, met with officials, scientists and engineers while touring Army Research Laboratory facilities at APG, Oct. 5, 2017.

    Brig. Gen. Anthony (Tony) Potts, assumed his role as RDECOM deputy commanding general and Natick Soldier Systems Center senior commander in Natick, Massachusetts, Jan. 5.

    RDECOM is the parent organization for the laboratory and six research, development and engineering centers across the country.

    ARL Director Dr. Philip Perconti hosted the general’s visit, which included an overview of the Weapons and Materials Research Directorate. Potts also learned about the mission of ARL’s Survivability/Lethality Analysis Directorate from its director, Dr. Pat Baker.

    According to his biography, Potts is a rated as an AH-64 Apache instructor pilot with combat tours in Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. As an acquisition officer, he deployed to the Balkans, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, to field and sustain “critical battlefield systems.”

    Potts completed his visit to ARL facilities at the Vehicle Technology Directorate where he learned about how Army researchers are improving engine performance and efficiency in the high-altitude chamber.
