The Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) released the first rate training manual (RTM) for the cryptologic technician (networks) (CTN) rating, Nov. 3.

CTN Sailors perform a variety of duties associated with computer network operations across global networks, including defensive cyber operations, digital forensics analysis, digital network analysis, exploitation analysis, interactive operations, expeditionary operations, research and development and cyber planning. The RTM provides these Sailors with a reference source for the basic skillsets required for the rating.

“We’ve created a resource that enables our new accession CTNs to reach back and obtain materials pertinent to the rating and reinforce ‘A’ School training,” said Samuel Kelley, the deputy director for the model management/requirements directorate at CIWT. “This RTM will directly help the Sailor in preparing for advancement examinations, support individual and team training and provide an overview of the CTN rating to new-accession information warfare officers.”

The new RTM uses using video and interactive courseware and interactive testing capabilities. Test questions link directly to the answers to help reinforce baseline knowledge. The web-based software allows immediate updates based on rating changes.

“Cyber is an ever-changing field that impacts everything in our society,” said Kelley. “We want our Sailors to have the information they need to understand and execute the mission, and this new RTM affords our Sailors opportunities that were unavailable even a few years ago.”

It will also support future modifications to Learning and Development Roadmaps (LaDR's) and be used by Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) working group efforts. As CIWT pursues Ready, Relevant Learning development, the NRTC may be considered as part of future blended training solutions for block learning.

The RTM is available on My Navy Portal at https://www.mnp.navy.mil; highlight organizations and select NETC from the dropdown menu. On the NETC page, select Learning Centers then select Information Warfare Training. Under the CIWT page, select Training, then RTM to see the full list of available RTMs. It is also available on the Naval Education and Training Command's NRTC Portal at https://www.courses.netc.navy.mil. To activate imbedded courseware and testing capabilities, download to your desktop.

Center for Information Warfare Training delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
