    20th Fighter Wing

Five 20th Fighter Wing Airmen received handmade quilts from approximately 25 Quilts of Valor Foundation volunteers, at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Nov. 9.

During the event, 20th FW leadership accompanied QOVF members to recognize Airmen across the base for their service to the country.

Since its establishment in 2003, the QOVF has provided more than 150,000 quilts for service members affected by war and who show exemplary performance in the workplace.

According to www.qovf.org, the mission of the foundation is to “cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.”

Libby Singletary, QOVF member, said witnessing her veteran son deploy to places where he physically and mentally struggled was difficult for her.

“Anything that we can do to show our appreciation to our service members is important,” said Singletary. “My heart is with the service member.”

According to Singletary, the quilts take approximately 5 months to complete.

One quilt recipient from the base said they felt comforted once the quilts were draped over their shoulders.

“It’s been a completely humbling experience,” said Senior Master Sgt. Daniel Henderson, 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 55th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, “Shooters” assistant superintendent. “The support is overwhelming, and what the QOVF does makes a huge difference for everybody. It means the world to us as active-duty members.”

QOVF events are scheduled to occur annually in order to showcase the dedication and achievements of the Airmen assigned to Shaw AFB.
