MUÑIZ AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Puerto Rico. (Nov. 18, 2017) – The Foundation of Puerto Rico and Members of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard and National Guard partnered together to deliver food and water to residents of Añasco, Puerto Rico, Nov. 18, 2017.
The Foundation of Puerto Rico provided chicken, beans, rice and water for the mission, and the supplies were passed out to more than 400 homes and 1400 people in the neighborhood of Espino.
“We in the Foundation of Puerto Rico have a Category 5 heart for the people of Puerto Rico,” said Natalia Arcila, a logistic coordinator with the Foundation of Puerto Rico. “Everyone is here for one goal, and that is to help people.”
Arcila lead a team throughout the neighborhood of Espino that knocked on doors and delivered food and water to smiling residents.
The goal of the mission was to ensure that residents received food and water that could help them during their recovery as most of the citizens visited currently do not have electricity.
“The people who received supplies were very happy because most of them have been without power for a while now,” said Senior Airman Victor Castro, a team member with the 141st Air Control Squadron in Punta Borinquen Radar Site, Puerto Rico.
There was a large National Guard presence that assisted the Foundation of Puerto Rico during this outreach. The military assistance for this mission consisted of members from the 156th Airlift Wing, 141st Air Control Squadron, Puerto Rico Air National Guard, 189th Medical Group, Arkansas Air National Guard, 183rd Security Forces Squadron, Illinois Air National Guard, and 544th Military Police Company, 482nd Chemical Company, 92nd Military Police Brigade, Puerto Rico Army National Guard.
The logistics team with the Foundation of Puerto Rico runs weekly assessments in different cities throughout the week to find areas that may benefit most from relief supplies. The food and water missions are then scheduled for the weekend to have a strong impact on the residents of the city chosen that week.
