Fort Wayne IAP, IN – Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County delivered over 125 holiday meals to the 122nd Fighter Wing today for the 16th consecutive year in support of local military families and veterans.

“The volunteers at Associated Churches and I are always proud to support the military families of our community,” said Pastor Roger Reece, Director of Associated Churches. “It is our honor to provide these meals to families in need every year.”

Associated Churches raised over $4000 in donations and charitable contributions this year in order to provide 100 meals to the Blacksnakes at the 122nd as well as 25 meals to soldiers at the 1st Battalion 293rd Infantry of Fort Wayne, Indiana. At the time of the delivery over 50 of the meals designated for the Blacksnakes had already been accounted for.

“Gathering donations is never a problem,” said Reece. “Fort Wayne is an amazing and extremely military friendly community. Locals and area businesses are always happy to help.”

Holiday meals and other holiday donations from local organizations are just part of the way the 122nd is able to work towards the resiliency of their members during the holiday season.

"The Blacksnakes of the 122nd appreciate Roger Reece and the Associated Churches for 16 years of supporting us and local military families during the holiday season,” said Col Kyle Noel, 122nd Fighter Wing Vice Commander. “The holidays can be a tough time for families in need. Donations like these not only contribute to Airman Resiliency during the holidays but help ensure all of our members can rest a little easier and enjoy this season with their families.”

The 122nd Airman and Family Readiness Center works directly with the community to provide assistance for all area military members and veterans as well as serving as a hub for information about programs in the area.

“Without the support of Associated Churches for the last 16 years we would have military families who would struggle to find a Thanksgiving meal for their family or go without,” said Connie Douthat, Airman and Family Readiness Program Manager.

“Our military families are grateful for the holiday meal which allows them to carry on or form their own family traditions for the holiday season,” said Connie. “With joyful hearts our military families thank Associated Churches and their volunteers.”

Connie can be contacted at the Family Readiness Center at 260-478-3409, where any current service member assigned to a military unit in Allen County can also apply to become a Holiday Family and receive assistance with gifts this year.
