The annual grudge match is mostly played on the East Coast and has recently bounced back and forth between Baltimore and Philadelphia. The Navy has had a run of good luck in recent years but the Army team has had their number the last two years. This year, the Army’s Black Knights won 14-13, as the Navy Midshipmen missed a last second field goal. The snow didn’t dampen the fun, and the night was rich in military tradition.
In addition to the normal military pageantry, the game featured the national debut of the Army’s tribute to its history with the Pink & Green daily wear uniform. Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey, along with two Soldier models, wore the Pink & Green uniform around Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. They explained and detailed the features and benefits of this proposed new look, and garnered positive reviews from military personnel and civilians alike.
The uniform is a throwback to the WWII uniform Soldiers would wear in garrison environments. The entire look is a tribute to that era and what it stood for, from the brown and tan (pink hew) colors, to the crusher cap up top. The one significant upgrade however is access to better more modern fabrics. These newer fabrics allow the pink and green uniform to not only be nostalgic but a more comfortable every day business uniform.
To go along with the positive feedback on the Pink & Green uniform, the Army’s second win in a row over their Service rival was the true highlight of the night. Capping the victory was the Army’s winning of the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy for the first time since 1996.
