Members from the local and military communities on Okinawa came together for the 24th Annual Camp Courtney Christmas Festival Dec. 9 aboard Camp Courtney.
The festival brought the attendees a weekend of fun, Christmas-themed activities.
“By participating in the festival I feel like I can be closer to the Americans,” said Kumiko Yagi, an Okinawa City resident enjoying the festival with her family.
Along with food, games and music, Santa and his elves spread Christmas cheer by taking photos with children and their families.
DJ Manifesto, a DJ, violinist and producer, warmed up the stage with his mixed beats and violin performance while the festival filled with people. Third Eye Blind headlined the festival, thanking both the local and military communities for welcoming them to the island for the first time.
“I think those of us who don’t serve our country have an obligation to serve those who do,” said Stephan Jenkins, singer, song writer and guitarist for Third Eye Blind. ”So this is one way we can do that.”
Guests sang and danced along to the music, lifting their spirits during the holidays.
“We have done a lot of great volunteer work for the holiday season,” said Jenkins. “The best thing we will do this Christmas, is perform overseas for our troops.”
